Celebrity Slightings

It is really fantastic to live in a country that has so few real problems that the biggest story of Sunday night was that pop star Taylor Swift popped her last remaining cherry, the political one, and finally endorsed some candidates. GOOD! Thank God. I can now sleep well at night knowing that Taylor Swift finally checked her bank account and realized it didn’t matter if she pissed off half her fans, she doesn’t need them anymore. Short of Tiger Woods, there are almost no “A” list celebrities to be named who still follow the Michael Jordan rule of staying out of politics because as Jordan famously said, “Republicans buy sneakers too.”

The irony, of course, is that short of the cesspool that is social media, the overwhelming majority of people don’t care at all what actors, actresses, singers, athletes, and celebrity chefs think about the issues of the day. Just show us how to make Beef Wellington and leave it at that, eh?

Not that they don’t have the right to express themselves, they do. It’s the hubris and short sightedness of believing they matter in any way when they announce their positions, march in their little parades, and make their stunningly ignorant bumper sticker claims to back up what they think they think.

Enter Pete Davidson of Saturday Night Live fame, better known as the man who single handedly ruined any attractiveness Ariana Grande had. Davidson is easily one of the least talented and least funny people ever to have been given a microphone, and, if there were any truth in the universe it would be said aloud that the only reason he’s still employed by anyone anywhere is that he’s a victim. All of his “material,” is based on his admission of being mentally ill, which of course makes him strong and brave and warrants boring the world with nonsensical attempts at humor.

This last weekend, Davidson went on a rant on SNL, lecturing and ridiculing Kanye West for his end-of-show pro-Trump rant a week earlier. The gist of it being “no one wants to hear what a singer thinks about politics.” The punch line? Here’s how Davidson slammed it home: Davidson agreed that West is a “musical genius,” the same way Joey Chestnut is a “hot dog-eating genius.” And then said, “But I don’t want to hear Joey Chestnut’s opinion on things that are not hot dog-related.”

I’ll pause while you catch your breath from hyper-ventilating while laughing. So cutting, so topical, relevant and hip. Amazing, Pete, just amazing.

Now, this is truly rich on so many levels. For starters, here sits Davidson on a show that lost its’ way about two years ago and completely abandon any attempts at being funny, satirical, or objective in any way and simply decided to rely on one punch line: Trump is wrong and an idiot. It is the same morass Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmell, and sadly and most recently, John Oliver have all fallen into. They’re so enraged by their political bent and clouded view of “facts,” that their brains are no longer capable of being funny.

Don’t get me wrong, SNL has always been political, just not so one sided. Either way, the forum of SNL is the place to make commentary…so what’s the problem with what, when and where Kanye did what he did? Simple…what he said doesn’t fit Davidson’s dogma, therefore it’s wrong and evil. Furthermore, Davidson himself, off camera, is more hyper political than Kanye has ever dreamed of being. Davidson has a tattoo of Hillary Clinton, for the love of God, on his leg, which he gleefully showed the world via Twitter the moment it was done calling Clinton “a badass and one of the strongest people in the universe.” That’s pretty overtly political, Mr. Chestnut. (http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/tv/ct-pete-davidson-hillary-clinton-tattoo-20171216-story.html)

Davidson then launched the ultimate reverse-racism-stereotype of ignorance that shows up as this quote: Talking about Kanye wearing a “Make America Great Again,” hat while he was speaking on SNL, Davidson said, “I wish I had suggested it might upset people. Like your wife, or every black person ever.”

Ahhhh…yes…no black person in America voted for Trump or supports him. And if they do, they’re self-loathing Uncle Tom’s, right Pete Chestnut? Davidson’s comment, a disgusting and demeaning and racist statement ironically confirms what African American Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas said in his confirmation hearing 28 years ago: “…from my standpoint, as a black American, (this hearing) is a high-tech lynching for uppity blacks who in any way deign to think for themselves, to do for themselves, to have different ideas, and it is a message that unless you kowtow to an old order, this is what will happen to you. You will be lynched, destroyed, caricatured…rather than hung from a tree.” (https://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/cnsnewscom-staff/flashback-clarence-thomas-denies-anita-hill-allegations-calls-senate)

In a final insult that would never be tolerated were the attack to be done in reverse, Davidson then asserted that Kanye West was off his medication for mental illness and needed to get back on them. Imagine if another public voice of mental illness said such things today about Davidson in response to his rant. That person would be bullied off social media, called a “health shamer,” and ruined in every way possible.

Don’t believe me? Watch this story develop this week: Rose McGowan, THE face of the #metoo movement came out this weekend and said the entire movement was “a lie,” which has been corrupted by opportunists, adding, “supporters of President Trump are wrong about everything except for their thoughts on Hollywood. They hate Hollywood for being faux liberals — and they’re 100% right about that. It’s a bunch of faux liberals. It’s crap, and they know it is deep down, but they’re living an empty life, and to me that’s their punishment. They get to live the lives they live,” McGowan said.

It didn’t take long for McGowan to begin being destroyed on social media, causing her to “clarify,” remarks and claim some of them were never said. The UK Sunday Times, which reported the interview, says the entire exchange was recorded and they stand by the story. Point being, for the past year, McGowan was the ultimate victim and champion at once. She (rightfully) brought down and exposed Harvey Weinstein and championed every single woman who claimed to have been a victim ever in their lives. She was a hero. Until she did one interview, exposing the very obvious truth that the movement has been hijacked by charlatans and instantly, she was a villain. https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/rose-mcgowan-clarifies-metoo-comments-denies-calling-the-movement-a-lie

Imagine if Pete Davidson came out today and announced he chatted with Kanye and decided that he’s right…and that Trump is an amazing president doing amazing things, in particular for African Americans…how long would Davidson’s career last? 3…2…1…
