Review by Brandon:
I don’t believe Adam Sandler has made a quality, funny movie since Happy Gilmore or Billy Madison. Sure he has dabbled in the serious roles, but nothing has stood out quite as much as his early work. Since he signed on to do what seems to be a new movie on Netflix every month like The Ridiculous 6 and The Do-Over, just to name a couple. I have yet to give any of them a try until now. To be honest, the only reason I gave “The Week Of” a shot was because it co-stars Chris Rock. To my surprise, I found myself laughing more than I thought I would and ultimately enjoying Adam Sandler as he channeled some of that angry Adam Sandler we loved from the early days.
Two fathers with opposing personalities come together to celebrate the wedding of their children. They are forced to spend the longest week of their lives together, and the big day cannot come soon enough.
This movie came out coincidentally after we have spent almost a week on discussing wedding horror stories like atrocious gift registry requests, cover charges for attending a wedding, and drama between family members. It’s almost like they channeled everything that could ever go wrong in the week leading up to a wedding and put it all into this movie.
There are a lot of funny moments, but it is balanced out with the sentimental stories behind the father’s and the role’s they play in their family’s lives. Also, I think the funniest character in the movie was an old man with no legs who played Sandler’s great Uncle. Honestly, the entire ensemble of the cast made this movie funny, but the legless Uncle was my favorite. I give “The Week Of” a thumbs up!
