The Potentially Terrifying Future Of America

The Potentially Terrifying Future Of America

While many spend their days wringing their hands over the horror that is President Trump, one thing we should have our eyes on is 2020…or 2024 because as of now, the future is potentially horrifying.

There’s no way to know what will come of the Trump presidency; be it war, economic prosperity, an alliance with the Democrats, or something even more unpredictable. Either way, he won’t be president forever and the question is whether or not he’ll lead to a President Pence or a president whack-job, because that’s all the Democratic party seems willing to offer as of now.

The prospect of a President Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth warren is terrifying enough since either would do their damndest to convert America to Socialism and destroy our country under the guise of being “fair,” and “kind.”

Lurking in the background is New York mayor Bill De Blasio who has made no secret of his desire to be president and has also made no secret of the fact that he is, essentially, a communist. He has all but ruined New York city in just 2+ years, elevating the crime rate, destroying the morale of the greatest police department in America, raising taxes and costs, and all but employing, as much as can, a socialist agenda in America’s largest city. Now, he has his sights set on the White House and with his policies and his “mixed family,” (something left wing whackos love because they’re the ones who see color more than anyone in this country), he’s a darling of the left. And with the Democratic party lurching further and further towards becoming the Socialist party, he’s a viable candidate for what used to be the party of JKF and Bill Clinton and now is nothing like that.
As no less than the left-leaning USA today reported this week, De Blasio made clear his Socialist wackiness in a new interview when he said the following:

“What’s been hardest is the way our legal system is structured to favor private property. I think people all over this city, of every background, would like to have the city government be able to determine which building goes where, how high it will be, who gets to live in it, what the rent will be. I think there’s a socialistic impulse, which I hear every day, in every kind of community, that they would like things to be planned in accordance to their needs. And I would, too. Unfortunately, what stands in the way of that is hundreds of years of history that have elevated property rights and wealth to the point that that’s the reality that calls the tune on a lot of development….

Look, if I had my druthers, the city government would determine every single plot of land, how development would proceed. And there would be very stringent requirements around income levels and rents. That’s a world I’d love to see, and I think what we have, in this city at least, are people who would love to have the New Deal back, on one level. They’d love to have a very, very powerful government, including a federal government, involved in directly addressing their day-to-day reality.”

This is mind-boggling. The mayor of the world’s financial center, the hub of American and global capitalism, thinks that the obstacle to progress is private property, the institutional system that has brought billions of people around the world out of back-breaking poverty. Thinks that politicians should determine where buildings should be built and “who gets to live in it.” Thinks that the people of enterprising New York City have a widespread impulse toward socialism and comprehensive, coercive central planning.

Mayor de Blasio says he’d like to have the power to determine what happens on every piece of land in the city. Other leaders have had such power, in the Soviet Union and China and Venezuela, and those systems did not produce progress.

More concerning than that is his stated desire to have a “very powerful government,” something that is absolutely contrary to the founding of this nation. Sadly, it is also something that is gaining more and more popularity in the heartland. As Millennials grow up and Baby Boomers retire, both generations more and more express a desire to have a government that takes care of their every need. And who wouldn’t love that? Why work hard when someone else will take care of all of your needs? And since we’re going to soak the successful, we’ll bring everyone down a peg and make us all feel better about our laziness and lack of desire.

Oh wait, I know who wouldn’t like that…a true American.
