The Conjuring 3 – The Devil Made Me Do It

Over the weekend, I caught up on the latest in film series following the many paranormal adventures of Ed & Lorraine Warren.  In The Conjuring 3 – The Devil Made Me Do It, based on true events, the paranormal investigators take on one of the most sensational cases of their careers after a cop stumbles upon a dazed and bloodied young man walking down the road. Accused of murder, the suspect claims demonic possession as his defense, forcing the Warrens into a supernatural inquiry unlike anything they’ve ever seen before.  While some say that this film series can not be sustainable, I’d say that this is the best one yet as it strays from the standard “sit and spook” style cinematography, and has a fast-paced feel to it, akin to an action film.  I was riveted from the beginning, and I enjoyed that they didn’t waste any time setting up the plot and rolling with it.  You do not need to be familiar with any of the previous Conjuring films, even though they do have some throwbacks to prior investigations including one of the most famous being “Annabelle.”  You will not be missing out on anything if you haven’t seen any of the prior films.  While this spooky flick will likely not be winning any major awards, that doesn’t matter in this case, as it is entertaining enough and will give you just the right amount of jumps and suspense that you’d expect from a thriller like this.  I especially enjoyed the possessed humans and their demonic contortions.  Think “The Exorcist” on steroids!  If you’re looking for a cheap thrill, The Conjuring 3 will surely curb your appetite.  Thumbs up!
