Review: Severance

Brandon’s Entertainment Review for

Severance

Streaming on Apple TV+

Ben Stiller takes the helm as director of this thrilling new series on Apple TV+ and it is outstanding!  Buckle up for a very interesting concept of corporate induced memory loss that divides their employee’s brains into two using a surgical implant.  Adam Scott leads the cast in a serious role outside of his usual comedic characters that you traditionally see him play.  The cast also includes Patricia Arquette, Britt Lower, Christopher Walken, John Turturro and Tramell Tillman, to name a few.  Each character is outstanding in their own way.  This series (with only 3 episodes released so far at the time of this review) is filled with surprises and is a true psychological thriller.  The mystery behind the jobs inside that require the employee’s memories to be severed from their lives on the outside scratches the surface of the show’s plotline.  The severance program is no mystery to society and creates a moral and ethical divide, even though these employees are doing so willingly.  The employees often refer to their working selves as the “Innies” and their off the clock selves as their “Outies” to help them delineate and function as humans.  It’s all business as usual until a mysterious colleague appears outside of work, which begins a journey to discover the truth about their jobs.  I’m loving this series so far and give it a huge thumbs up!
