Producer Brandon’s review of Letterkenny (Season 9 on Hulu) –
“How are ya now? Not s’bad, n’you?” – Every Christmas over the last 2 years we have had a new season of our favorite gang of Canadians from Letterkenny grace the devices on which we stream videos… aka the TV. On 12/26/20 we woke to 7 new episodes in season 9 of the show that is truly an acquired taste. This show is actually best to watch with the closed captions on as the Canadian/Irish accents take some getting used to as the dialogue is quick-paced and filled with some words or phrases that require some googling. “To be fair” once you get the hang of it, this show is filled with comedy gold with situations relatable to all ages, especially those who are on the cusp of being “too old” to be a millennial.
Created by Jared Keeso as a web series, Letterkenny chronicles the comings and goings of the residents in a small rural Ontario town named…Letterkenny. It is an extremely acquired taste, but once you settle into the deep deadpan of it all, it’s one of the funniest things on TV right now. If you’re unsure of the tone, this cold open is a great taste. I cannot stress enough how much it’s just Daryl (Nathan Dales), Wayne (Keeso), and “Squirrely” Dan (K. Trevor Wilson) sitting around a table and saying British phrases at each other. This is just a taste of the hilarious, dead-pan humor that brought me loads of joy over this holiday break. Season 9 gets a big thumbs up from me, super chieftans!
