As many of you may know, I went to Kauai last Summer to get hitched to my wife and spend a week in paradise during vacation. I was lucky enough to go back and visit this year during my birthday week, which coincided with Spring Break. Thanks Rob! I say i was lucky because my grandfather, who is now retired, spends a month in Kauai each year, and has offered a room if we could just get out there. This was an offer that started nearly 10 years ago, so it was great to finally spend time out there with my grandparents. A great thing about them is they don’t like children, and they wanted us to get out of the house as much as possible… so we did and we had an amazing time. Hope you enjoy the photos, they never do the place justice.
This is the view over Hanalei Bay… truly amazing.
The wife and I on our way to breakfast at the Wake Up Cafe.
Then we got our feet wet at Anini beach.
This was a perfect day.
One day, my grandpa treated me to a round of golf on the island. I had never experienced a round of golf on the ocean and it should come to no surprise that my retired grandfather beat my ass.
While golfing, my wife went to visit the Hindu Monastery of Kauai. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to visit, but the photos she took were amazing.

Now that’s a hard peacock.
Pathways led you through these crazy tree formations that grew naturally.
There were little spots where you could stand and meditate if you wish.
Trees were all intertwined with each other. Apparently this location hold some spiritual value.
Stone pathway.
Here is where some sort of ceremony would be performed.
An offering dish in one of the Buddha statues.
Dinner bell I’m guessing.
The attention to detail on a lot of these are amazing.
This is some sort of glass or crystal.
The wife has a thing for gems.
This is probably where the monks go skinny dipping.
The view of the new monastery that is being built is seen in the distance.
These views never get old.
They don’t call it the garden isle for nothing.

Private monk area… where monks do their private stuff… seems shady to me.
Round 1
After a full day of travelling, it was nice to wake up the next day to find a ton of little lizards hanging out on the patio of my room. These two just so happened to be getting a little morning nookie.
Naturally, I had to take a picture of nature taking it’s course. Do you think the “money shot” was green too? It wasn’t… it didn’t taste green either.
On our first night, we set out to check out the local market and grab some drinks to celebrate my 31st birthday. We noticed a ton of these giant spider webs everywhere. It was actually impressive because the rain would fall, take them down, and they’d be back in 10 minutes or less.
My grandparents told me of this bar called Tiki Iniki, which is owned by the world famous singer Todd Rund Rundgren. You know, the guy that sang “I Saw The Light” and “Can We Still Be Friends?” – Here is a portrait hanging in the bar for a reminder.
Of course we had to get some tiki drinks… which were poored heavily with lots of rum. Yum.
My wife got artsy with her drinks.

This place could not have been any more tiki and campy. Even the waitress had a surfer in her blue hair.
Catching up with my grandparents. They’re a fun bunch.

My wife spotted this couple playing grab ass… this was the closest picture she could get… but they were grabbing ass all night.
Even the stools (hehe) were little tiki guys.
My grandparents went home well before dark, and after one drink. My wife and I stayed for one or three more and walked home in the dark. At least we had this giant fountain to guide our way back home. It was literally a 5 minute walk from where we were staying.
Ooh pretty fountain.
On day 2, we went out and did some hiking. Only to find a bunch of crappy waterfalls and awful looking green scenery. #sarcasm.
More lush awfulness.
I’m not relieving myself in the jungle here…I swear.
I am probably relieving myself in this picture.
Waterfalls and streams ran alongside the trail to Queen’s bath, which was far to rough to visit on this particular day. It’s been known to churn people up into the ocean and kill people.
More waterfalls.
Did I mention there were a lot of waterfalls?
It was a humid day… but every day is humid. Gotta love the island climate.
More to come next week!
